It is some sort of chemical that your water is being treated with that is reacting with the lens material. Do not put these lenses back in your eyes. Soft contacts will soak up anything they can and you will be putting the contaminates/chemicals in the water into your eye....this can cause irritation, infection and possibly even damage. Never soak your lenses in tap water, there are too many risks.
Acanthamoeba is very commonly found in tap water and fresh water. Ancanthamoeba is a microbe that can be the cause of a terrible eye infection in contact lens wearers.
The infection it causes is very serious and difficult to treat... in some cases it can lead to loss of vision.
Any eye care professional will advise against you using tap water in any way with your contact lenses.
Please always use the appropriate storing solution for your contact lenses...and throw away the contaminated ones.
Good luck hun :)Why do clear contacts turn green when you put them in water?
Most contacts come with a visibility tint so that you can see them in your case, or if you drop them in the sink.
Putting your lenses in water is NOT a good idea. There are bacteria that are in your tap water that can cause very nasty eye infections and lead to blindness in the worst case scenarios. You need to make sure that you ALWAYS have solution available. Put some in your case when you take it with you...
Do NOT use tap water...that's always one of the biggest points I go over with my patient who are new contact lens wearers...
Sounds like your water is highly chlorinated to me.
Oh my water is the wrong solution for them that's why.
Plus Chlorine has water so that might be it.
i wouldn't put them in water... I know that i have had contacts that have a bluish tint to them so that you could see them in the saline. seriously tho, i would make sure you have a supply of saline. it helps to keep your lenses clean and prevents any nasties from getting into your eyes. God forbid you contract some terribly eye infection from something that was in the water. Most tap water contains chlorine, and that's what they use to clean and filter the water.... ick.
Some compound or chemical in your tap water is being absorbed into your soft contact lens and causing a chemical reaction that tints the lens. Tap water should contain calcium, magnesium, and sodium for human health. Then it also contains varying levels of chlorine, copper, lead, arsenic and other nasty stuff depending on where you live.
If you have spare lenses, you can do an experiment and soak them in saline and calcium pill or magnesium pill or copper and see what happens.
