My base curve is 8.6 and Acuvue Oasys only come in 8.4 or 8.8.I wear Clear Comfort contacts but suffer from dry eyes, is there another brand of contacts you recommend?
Try the new Biofinity lens from Cooper Vision. One caveat thought, some people with dry eyes are not good candidates for contacts.I wear Clear Comfort contacts but suffer from dry eyes, is there another brand of contacts you recommend?
Dry eyes might not be caused by your contacts but by a condition of your eyes.. You should talk to your eye doctor. He would be able to give you something that could really help.
You should be asking this of your optometrist who can give you trial pairs of various types to see what gives you the most comfort.
Acuvue Oasys and CooperVision Biofinity are both good.
Don't worry about your base curve - we measure the curvature of your cornea eg 7.8, then add 0.6-0.8 to that figure to get an idea of what base curve contact lens is best. There are no hard and fast rules, however. It is best to have a look at how the different lenses fit on the eye during the test.
My base curve was something else too and I can wear the Acuvue Oasys in 8.4...you should just try them if you havent already and then if they are uncomfortable then you know you cant wear them, but I tried and they dont feel any different, as far as the size. They stay moisturized for a long time. Try the Acuvue Hydraclear ones, they are pretty good too and they come in different base curves.
My ophthalmologist is completely against contact lenses.
Some people don't know how to keep the clean and suffer from eye infections as a result.
The careless use of contacts can also result in scratches to the cornea. These can permanently interfere with a person's vision.
So I would recommend that you give up contacts and wear glasses. That's what I have done all my life. They work quite well, and you should find it easy to find frames that look good on your face.

Many a good OD will tell you that base curves don't mean all that much, and many, many patients wear what the OD never thought that they could or would, defying any logic that should accompany base curve fitting...
If dry eyes are a problem, definitely check out silicone hydrogel lenses--they are great for any eyes, particularly dry eyes. I find wearing them for 16-48 hours no problem.
Alternatively, Proclear lenses with PC technology seem to be getting great kudos from dry eye wearers as well...
