Due to the humidity in the bathroom, the wallpaper that I put up about 5 years ago was beginning to peel above the shower. I repapered that area, but don't want to have to redo it again in 4 or 5 years. I've pretty much used up all my extra wallpaper anyway. We used wallpaper paste on the back of the vinyl paper this time instead of just soaking it and putting it up according to the directions. My plan is to cover it with clear contact paper and then caulk aroung the top of the shower to seal it, but I don't know if there would be any unforseen problems with this. Please help if you can. Thanks! Are there any problems with putting clear contact paper over wallpaper above a shower so it won't peel?
I don't beleive that putting clear contact paper over the wall paper will provide a ';waterproof'; barrier. The wallpaper will still probably peel off, taking the contact paper with it. I think they make wall paper specifically for shower stalls, but there are two issues to deal with: hot vapor, and wetness. I used greenboard in my shower, which is sheet rock or gypsum board treated to go specifically in showers. It's unaffected by either the heat or the wetness. I then painted it. You can apply it directly over the existing board/wallpaper etc. Just cut to fit snugly, attach with sheet rock screws and apply a decorative border where it meets the walls. Are there any problems with putting clear contact paper over wallpaper above a shower so it won't peel?
Rule number one. You can apply strips of wall paper around above the shower walls and sides, but not directly above the shower wall thats a no no.
The mold will just grow in between the papers and u mite not know till it is to late.
